"KRONOS" (1962)

KRONOS is the second tape composition I created in the San Francisco Conservatory tape
studio that I put together (fall 1961). The 'white noise' opening was created by dragging
a pair of scissors over a large sheet of aluminum that I 'echoed' by re-recording in the men's
bathroom. The vocal sounds are being echoed through a speaker attached to the soundboard
of an upright piano and being picked up by a microphone. The oscillator is an HP sinewave
generator being played by hand (and recorded for later editing).
The tabla-like sounds in the later section are slowed-down water rushing from a faucet.
